Treatments

If you are unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with breast cancer, then we have a team of specialists to support you on the journey through it. Breast cancer is the commonest cancer, with approximately 55,000 women diagnosed in the UK each year. It is currently estimated that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years, making breast cancer much more treatable now than ever before. Treatment can broadly be broken down into 4 main categories: surgery, sometimes chemotherapy (sometimes with immunotherapy), sometimes radiotherapy, and sometimes tablet treatment. An individualised patient-centred treatment plan will be recommended, based on your personal wishes, along with the tumour characteristics.

Surgery

Breast cancer surgery can broadly be divided into breast-conserving surgery (removal of just the tumour / lump, with a safety rim round it) or mastectomy (removal of the breast).

Radiotherapy

At Warwickshire Breast Clinics we have access to advanced radiotherapy treatments for breast patients in partnership with GenesisCare.

Chemotherapy

If you are diagnosed with breast cancer you may be prescribed Chemotherapy by your Consultant Oncologist.
